The purpose of the present article is to study the NLS equation for a uniformly positive potential with a prescribed asymptotic behaviour. The main result is a statement that the PDE in question `has infinitely many non-radial positive solutions, whose energy can be made arbitrarily large'. The proof coinsists of several steps, which gradually improve upon each other. The proofs use the Lyaponov-Schmidt reduction, dominated convergence theorem, Riesz representation theorem, integration by parts, Fredholm alternative, Sobolev embedding theorem, theorem of means, implicit function theorem, Taylor theorem, and Banach fixed point theorem. Finally, generalizations to higher dimensions are discussed.
