Intersection bodies, introduced by \textit{E. Lutwak} [Adv. Math. 71, No. 2, 232--261 (1988; Zbl 0657.52002)], are defined in terms of the radial function \(\rho(L,u)=\max\{r\geq 0:ru\in L\}\), and provide a solution to the famous Busemann-Petty problem. This kind of sets were extended to the \(L_p\)-theory by \textit{C. Haberl} and \textit{M. Ludwig} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2006, No. 17, Article ID 10548, 29 p. (2006; Zbl 1115.52006)], defining the \(L_p\)-intersection bodies as follows: given a star body \(L\) and \(0<p<1\), \[ \rho(I_pL,u)^p=\int_L|u\cdot x|^{-p}dx. \] The classical intersection body \(IL\) is obtained as a limit of \(L_p\)-intersection bodies, namely, \(2\rho(IL,u)=\lim_{p\to 1^-}(1-p)\rho(I_pL,u)^p\). In the paper under review, the authors introduce the notion of \textit{general \(L_p\)-intersection body} in the following way: for a star body \(L\) and \(0<p<1\), \[ \rho(I_p^{\tau}L,u)^p=\frac{(1+\tau)^p(1-\tau)^p}{(1+\tau)^p+(1-\tau)^p}\int_L\varphi_{\tau}(u\cdot x)^{-p}dx, \] where \(\varphi_{\tau}(t)=|t|-\tau t\), \(-1<\tau<1\). Then they study the Busemann-Petty problem for this kind of bodies, proving, for instance, that if \(K\) is a general \(L_p\)-intersection body and \(L\) is a star body such that \(I_p^{\tau}K\subseteq I_p^{\tau}L\), then \(V(K)\leq V(L)\).
