The present paper considers the Sierpinski-type self-similar measure \(\mu_{\rho}\) in \(\mathbb{R}^2\), where the contraction ratio \(\rho\) satisfies \(0<|\rho|<1\). The conditions under which \(\mu_{\rho}\) becomes a spectral measure is the main focus of study. The ultimate goal is to offer a complete solution on the spectrality of the Sierpinski-type \(\mu_{\rho}\), as well as to understand the higher dimensional spectral measures and the technicalities involved. One of the main results is the proof of the necessary condition of the statement ``\(\mu_{\rho}\) is a spectral measure if and only if \(\displaystyle |\rho|=1/(3p)\) where \(p\in \mathbb{N}\)''. The sufficient condition of this statement has already been proved (see [\textit{D. E. Dutkay} and \textit{P. E. T. Jorgensen}, Math. Z. 256, No. 4, 801--823 (2007; Zbl 1129.28006)]) and a similar characterization for Bernoulli convolution over which \(\rho=1/(2p)\), \(p\in\mathbb{N}\) has also been shown by \textit{X.-R. Dai} [Adv. Math. 231, No. 3--4, 1681--1693 (2012; Zbl 1266.42012)].
