Let \(V\) be an \(n\)-dimensional real vector space, \({\mathcal K}(V)\) the set of compact convex bodies in \(V\), and \(\mathrm{Val}^G\) the vector space of continuous, translation invariant valuations on \({\mathcal K}(V)\) (with values in \(\mathbb{R}\) or \(\mathbb{C}\)) that are invariant under the group \(G\subset \mathrm{GL}(V)\). By a classical theorem of Hadwiger, the space \(\mathrm{Val}^{\mathrm{SO}(n)}\) has dimension \(n+1\) and is spanned by the intrinsic volumes. For a compact group \(G\), it was proved by Alesker that \(\mathrm{Val}^G\) has finite dimension if and only \(G\) acts transitively on the unit sphere. These results have important consequences for integral geometry. Continuing earlier work of Alesker and the second author, the present paper deals with the indefinite orthogonal groups \(\mathrm{SO}^+(p,q)\). The first main theorem completely determines the dimensions of the subspaces of \(k\)-homogeneous valuations in \(\mathrm{Val}^{\mathrm{SO}^+(p,q)}\). All these dimensions are small numbers. The second main theorem does the same for the space \(\mathrm{Val}_k^{-\infty}(V)^{\mathrm{SO}^+(p,q)}\) of \(k\)-homogeneous, \(\mathrm{SO}^+(p,q)\)-invariant generalized translation-invariant valuations. The third main theorem describes the even \(\mathrm{SO}^+(p,q)\)-invariant generalized translation-invariant valuations in terms of their Klain function. The authors further introduce KS-continuous valuations. As they say non-formally, a \(k\)-homogeneous generalized valuation is KS-continuous if it can be naturally evaluated on a \((k+1)\)-dimensional convex body, and the latter value depends continuously on the body. The class of KS-continuous valuations strictly contains all continuous translation-invariant valuations. The authors show that pull-back and push-forward extend to spaces of KS-continuous valuations, and that the class of even KS-continuous valuations is invariant under the Alesker-Fourier transform.
