The author proves a relative index theorem for pairs of generalized Dirac operators which are the same at infinity. This generalizes to orbifolds a theorem of \textit{M. Gromov} and \textit{H. B. Lawson jun.} on orbifolds [Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 58, 83--196 (1983; Zbl 0538.53047)].
