The stability of the fast wavelet transform in two space dimensions is analyzed with respect to the \(l^\infty\) norm. Explicit error bounds are given for orthogonal Daubechies wavelets and biorthogonal wavelets. For the latter, a numerical example is presented in the context or image compression. [For part I, II, cf. Appl. Math. Comput. 206, No.~1, 74--91 (2008; Zbl 1163.65103); Appl. Math. Comput. 206, No.~1, 92--103 (2008; Zbl 1164.65040).]
