The stability of the fast wavelet transform in two space dimensions is analyzed with respect to the \(l^\infty\) norm. Explicit error bounds are given for orthogonal Daubechies wavelets and biorthogonal wavelets. For the latter, a numerical example is presented in the context or image compression.
