Schur-Weyl duality between the natural \(\text{GL}(V)\)-action and the natural \(S_r\)-action on \(V^{\otimes r}\) states that the centralizer algebra of each action coincides with the image of the other action in \(\text{End}(V^{\otimes r})\) and it allows to transfer information on representations of \(S_r\) to representations of \(\text{GL}(V)\). In this context, classical Schur algebras \(S(n,r)\) for \(n=\dim V \) were defined by \textit{J.~A. Green} [Polynomial representations of \(\text{GL}_n\), Lecture Notes in Mathematics 830. Springer (1980; Zbl 0451.20037)] and they are important in applications to modular representation theory. There exists a \(q\)-analogue of Schur-Weyl duality where \(\text{GL}_n\) is replaced by the quantized enveloping algebra \(U_q(gl_n)\) and \(S_r\) is replaced by the corresponding Hecke algebra \(H_r\). The \(q\)-Schur algebra \(S_q(n,r)\) was defined in terms of \(H_r\) by \textit{R. Dipper} and \textit{G. James} in [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 327, No. 1, 251--282 (1991; Zbl 0798.20009)] and it determines the representations of finite general linear groups. The first author and \textit{A. Giaquinto} provided in [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2002, No. 36, 1907--1944 (2002; Zbl 1059.16015)] a way to present \(q\)-Schur algebras by generators and relations compatible with the presentation of \(U_q(gl_n)\). In this spirit, the aim of this paper is to provide a presentation by generators and relations of an affine \(q\)-Schur algebra \(\widehat{S_q(n,r)}\) associated with the commuting actions of an extended version of the affine quantized enveloping algebra \(U(\widehat{gl_n})\) and of an extended affine Hecke algebra on the \(r\)-tensor space of an infinite dimensional vector space. The presentation is obtained by adding relations to the presentation of the affine quantized enveloping algebra \(U(\widehat{gl_n})\) under the assumption that \(n>r\). The proof makes use of the result in the finite case together with a geometric interpretation of \(\widehat{S_q(n,r)}\) due to \textit{M. Varagnolo} and \textit{E. Vasserot} [Duke Math. J. 100, No. 2, 267--297 (1999; Zbl 0962.17006)]; of a projection of \(U(\widehat{gl_n})\) onto \(\widehat{S_q(n,r)}\) due to \textit{G. Lusztig} [Asian J. Math 3, No. 1, 147--177 (1999; Zbl 0983.17011)] and of the embeddings of \(S_q(n,r)\) and of the Hecke algebra of the affine Weyl group into \(\widehat{S_q(n,r)}\) due to the second author [J. Algebra 215, 379--411 (1999; Zbl 0935.20003)].
