    The author considers the following singular second kind singular integral equation with constant coefficients \[ a\varphi (x) + \frac{b}{\pi }\int_{ - 1}^1 {\frac{\varphi (t)}{t - x}dt + \lambda \int_{ - 1}^1 {k(t,x)\varphi (t)dt = f(x), \qquad x \in ( - 1,\,\,1),} } \] where \(a,b \neq 0\) are real constants, \(f\) and \(k\) are Holder continuous functions on \(\left[ { - 1,\,\,1} \right]\) and \(\left[ { - 1,\,\,1} \right]\times \left[ { - 1,\,\,1} \right]\) respectively, \(\lambda \) is not an eigenvalue and the first integral is defined in the sense of the principal value. The Galerkin solution of this equation with solution \(\varphi \) having a weak singularity at \( - 1\) is discussed. In this case \(\varphi \) is decomposed as \(\varphi (x) = (1 - x)^\alpha (1 + x)^\beta u(x),\) where \(\beta = - \alpha ,\quad 0 < \alpha < 1.\) An error estimate under maximum norm is proved.
