The author considers dynamical systems closely resembling Hamilton's, but with the equation for one of the variables in each conjugate pair of coordinates rescaled by a nonzero factor: \[ \dot x_i = q^{-1}\frac{\partial H}{\partial y_i}, \;\;\dot y_i = - \frac{\partial H}{\partial x_i}, \;\;i=1, \ldots, n, \eqno(1) \] where the Hamiltonian \(H=H(x,y,q): \mathbb{R}^{2n} \times \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}\) is a smooth function. Dynamical systems (1) were previously studied by R.\,J.~Duffin (who called them \textit{pseudo-Hamiltonian}) as a model for certain dissipative physical phenomena. In the present paper, the author describes why these objects have some interesting applications to symplectic geometry and discusses how their physical interpretation motivates new problems in mathematics. The properties of such dynamical systems on Lagrangian fibrations are studied.
