The histopolation problem (histopolant can be obtained as the derivative of the solution of the corresponding interpolant) having as solutions quadratic/linear rational splines is studied. Both existence and uniqueness problems are addressed. Such splines should lead to strictly convex or strictly concave histograms. It is shown that there are strictly convex histograms where quadratic/linear spline histopolation doesn't exist. However some sufficient conditions for the existence are obtained. The uniqueness of an histopolant leading to a histogram with grid points placed arbitrarily together with spline knots between them is proved. The representation with second moments and integral values on parts of particular interval is considered as convenient. Some numerical tests are conducted to confirm the results.
