Let \(\Phi=\{\phi_n\}_{n\ge 1}\) be a sequence of asymptotically additive continuous functions. Let also \(\mathcal{F}= \{f_n\}_{n\ge 1}\) be a sequence of asymptotically additive potentials (AAP) and \(\mu\in M_T\) (the space of \(T\)-invariant Borel probability measures on a compact metric space \(X\)) a \(T\)-invariant measure such that \[\mathcal{F}_*(\mu)= \lim_{n\to\infty}\,\frac{1}{n} \int f_n d\mu.\] By using the sequence \(\Phi\) as a constrained condition, the aim of the author is to investigate the constrained ergodic optimization of an AAP \(\mathcal{F}\) with emphasis on the basic properties of constrained maximum ergodic averages. In particular, the author manages to prove that the maximal growth rate of an AAP \(\mathcal{F}\) on the level sets is equal to the constrained maximum ergodic average \(\mathcal{F}\). This is done by taking into account some specific topological features of the topological dynamical system \((X, T)\).
