Let \(\mathfrak{g}\) be a complex finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra. We attach to it the untwisted affien Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{aff}}\) and the quantum affine algebra \(U_\mathrm{v}(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{aff}})\). Fix an integral dominant weight \(\lambda\) of \(\mathfrak{g}\). By work of Kashiwara, the quantum affine algebra admits the level-zero extremal weight module \(V(\lambda)\), which is equipped with a \(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{aff}}\)-crystal basis structure. Inside \(V(\lambda)\), one has a family of Demazure-type submodules \(V_{w}^-(\lambda)\). Here \(w\) is an in the Weyl group of \(\mathfrak{g}\), the submodule is over the negative part \(U_{\mathrm{v}}^-(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{aff}})\) of the quantum affine algebra. These submodules are naturally graded with respect to the null root of the affine Lie algebra. In a previous work of the authors [\textit{S. Naito, F. Nomoto, D. Sagaki}, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 370, No. 4, 739--2783 (2018; Zbl 1432.17015)] it is shown that the graded character of the Demazure submodule \(V_w^-(\lambda)\) after a uniform normalization (which is independent of the choice of \(w\)) coincides with the specialization at \(t = \infty\) of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomial \(E_{w\lambda}(q,t)\). In the present paper, making further use of the \(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{aff}}\)-crystal structure on \(V(\lambda)\), the authors recover a recursion formula for theses polynomials \(E_{w\lambda}(q,\infty)\) first obtained in [\textit{I. Cherednik} and \textit{D. Orr}, Math. Z. 279, No. 3, 879--938 (2015; Zbl 1372.20009)]
