The author considers pseudo-differential operators with symbol \(a(z)\), \(z=(x,\eta)\in \mathbb{R}^{2n}\) satisfying estimates of the type \[|D^\alpha a(z)|\le C\,h^{|\alpha|} \alpha!^s\lambda(z),\] where \(s\ge 1\) and \(\lambda(z)\) is a weight with the exponential growth, basic example being \(\lambda(z)= \exp(|z|^{1/s})\). Very general results are given concerning continuity of \(a(x,D)\) on Gelfand-Shilov spaces. In particular, the author extends the resuls of \textit{M. Cappiello} and \textit{J. Toft} [Math. Nachr. 290, No. 5--6, 738--755 (2017; Zbl 1377.47017)]. The proofs use time-frequency methods. Namely, the definition of the classes of symbols is reset in terms of short-time Fourier transform, and also Gelfand-Shilov spaces are reconsidered in this frame. One is then reduced to prove continuity of \(a(x,D)\) in modulation spaces with exponential weight, cf. [\textit{N. Teofanov}, Sampl. Theory Signal Image Process. 5, No. 2, 225--242 (2006; Zbl 1156.46302)].
