The paper presents a spectral numerical method, based on the predictor-corrector scheme, for the solution of the three-dimensional Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (BBM) equation, with a generalized nonlinear term: \[ u_t + u_x + u^pu_x - u_{xxt} + \partial_x^{-1}(au_{yy} + bu_{zz}) = 0, \] with constant \(p\geq1\). Unlike the three-dimensional Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation, the regularization of which the BBM equation represents, this equation does not give rise to collapse of the wave filed in the three-dimensional space. The author considers a quasi-one-dimensional soliton solution to the BBM equation, and numerically demonstrates its instability against transverse perturbations. Next, the quasi-two-dimensional solution in the form of the so-called Zaitsev soliton is taken, \[ u(x,y)=12\alpha^2c\frac{1-\beta\cosh(\alpha x)\cos(\delta y)}{(\cosh(\alpha x ) - \beta\cos(\delta y))^2}, \] and its instability against \(z\)-dependent transverse perturbations is demonstrated numerically.
