Mainly this paper generalizes the classical result of Schwarz about triples \((a_1,a_2;b_1)\) for which the Gauss hypergeometric function \({}_2F_1(a_1,a_2;b_1;\xi)\) is algebraic. The author discusses a new approach to the problem of constructing equations satisfied by algebraic \({}_nF_{n-1}(\ldots;\xi)\)-functions. It is shown that many algebraic functions \({}_nF_{n-1}\), for which the finite monodromy is irreducible but imprimitive, can be represented as combinations of certain explicitly algebraic functions of a single variable, namely, the roots of trinomial equations \(x^n-gx^p-\beta=0\), where \(n=p+q\), \(\gcd(p,q)=1\), \(g\neq0\) is arbitrary but fixed and \(\xi=(-1)^q\,\frac{n^n}{p^pq^q}\,\frac{\beta^q}{g^n}\).
