In the paper under review, the authors study general properties of framed vertex operator algebras. They use the theory of simple current extensions of vertex operator algebras developed in [\textit{H. Yamauchi}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 189, No. 1--3, 315--328 (2004; Zbl 1052.17017)]. They prove that every framed vertex operator algebra is a simple current extension of the associated binary code vertex operator algebra \(V_{C}\). This result is very useful for the classification of irreducible modules of framed vertex operator algebras. The authors also prove that the vertex operator algebra obtained by the \(4A\)-twisted orbifold construction of the moonshine vertex operator algebra \(V^\natural\) is isomorphic to \(V^\natural\) itself.
