The paper under review studies the system of tautological classes defined on the moduli spaces of genus zero stable maps to arbitrary projective targets. (Tautological classes have also been considered additively by the reviewer in [J. Algebr. Geom. 15, No. 4, 623--655 (2006; Zbl 1195.14037)], with special emphasis on homogeneous targets.) First, the authors define an ``extended'' system of tautological rings which efficiently encode the classes supported on the boundary strata. The ordinary tautological rings are obtained as invariant subrings for the natural action of the symmetric group on the ``extended'' systems. Furthermore, the authors find ring generators for the extended tautological systems and moreover exhibit relations between these generators. In the case of stable maps to \(\mathbb P^n\), the extended tautological rings are determined in the last section of the paper. In particular, a presentation of the ordinary tautological ring of degree 3 unmarked genus 0 maps to \(\mathbb P^n\) is found, the authors thus confirm a conjecture of \textit{K. Behrend} and \textit{A. O'Halloran} [Invent. Math. 154, No. 2, 385--450 (2003; Zbl 1092.14019)].
