Using a purely algebraic method of \(m\)-fold Čech derived functors, the \(m\)-fold Čech derived functors of group valued functors from the category of crossed \(n\)-cubes is treated. In particular, the authors calculate the \(m\)th \(m\)-fold Čech derived functor of a certain abelianization functor \(\sigma \mathcal{U}{b}\) from the crossed \(n\)-cubes to the category of groups, implying the expression of the cotriple homology of crossed \(n\)-cubes (cat\(^n\)-groups) as generalized Hopf type formulas. The main result has the form: \[ H_{m+1}(\mathcal{M}) \cong \frac{\bigcap_{i\in\langle m\rangle} R^i_{\langle n\rangle} \prod_{B\cup C=\langle n\rangle} [ \yen(\emptyset)_B,\yen(\emptyset)_C]}{\prod_{A\subseteq \langle m\rangle}(\prod_{B\cup C=\langle n\rangle }[\bigcap_{i\in A} R_B^i, \bigcap_{i\notin A} R_C^i])} \] where \(R^i= \text{Ker}(\yen(\emptyset)\rightarrow \yen({i}))\) for \(i\in \langle m\rangle\); \(m\geq 1.\) This result generalizes the Hopf formulas for higher integral group homology and the Hopf formula for the second CCG-homology of crossed modules. Reviewer's remark: This is a good survey article. Emphasis is placed on the theory of Hopf algebras.
