The authors investigate the representation dimension of Artin algebras, which was defined by Maurice Auslander in 1970. The main result in the paper says that the representation dimension of a tilted, or of a strict laura algebra, is bounded above by \(3\). For further information on laura algebras one may refer to \textit{I. Assem} and \textit{F. U. Coelho} [J. Algebra 269, No. 2, 456-479 (2003; Zbl 1045.16006)], \textit{I. Assem, F. U. Coelho} and \textit{S. Trepode} [J. Algebra 281, No. 2, 518-534 (2004; Zbl 1078.16007)], and \textit{A. Skowroński} [Cent. Eur. J. Math. 1, No. 1, 108-122 (2003; Zbl 1035.16008)]. For some new results on representation dimensions of algebras linked by a tilting module one may look at a recent paper of the reviewer [\textit{C.-C. Xi}, Acta Math. Sin., Engl. Ser. 22, No. 2, 615-640 (2006; Zbl 1107.18006)].
