Let \(Q\) be a parameter ideal of a noetherian local ring \((R,\mathbf m)\). The authors define the \textit{Goto number} of \(Q\) as the largest integer \(g\) so that \(Q:\mathbf m^g\) is integral over \(Q\). They concentrate mainly on the one-dimensional case, especially on numerical semigroup rings. The authors consider several invariants related to the Goto numbers (\textit{Goto invariants}), and in the one-dimensional case they consider the set \(\mathcal G(R)\) of all Goto numbers of parameter ideals of \(R\). Here are some results from this paper: If \(R\) is one-dimensional, and if \(n\) is the minimal Goto number of a parameter ideal of \(R\), then all the parameter ideals contained in \({\mathbf m}^n\) have the same Goto number. The authors deal with the question when the set \(\mathcal G(R)\) is finite if \(R\) one-dimensional. They show that this set is not always finite. If \(R\) is a two-dimensional regular local ring, then \(g(Q)=\text{ord }\, Q-1\), where \(\text{ord}\, Q\) is the highest power of \(\mathbf m\) containing \(Q\).
