Frames are sequences of elements in a Hilbert space, which have an expansion property similar to the one which is known for orthonormal bases. Compared to orthonormal bases, frames have the advantage that the dual elements in general are non-unique. For a special class of frames, this property is used to find the dual elements which minimize various weighted norms. Furthermore, the class of Riesz frames (i.e., frames for which all subfamilies are frames with the same bounds) is characterized.
