Let \(H\) be a connected Hopf algebra of finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension over an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(0\). Here connectedness means the coradical of \(H\) is one-dimensional. The aim of this paper is to study left or right coideal subalgebras \(T\) of \(H\). From the coradical filtration \(H_{0}\subset H_{1}\subset \cdots\) of \(H\) and the induced filtration \( H_{0}\cap T\subset H_{1}\cap T\subset \cdots \) of \(T\), we get graded algebras gr\(H\) and gr\(T\) naturally. The main observation, which is excellent, of the authors is that gr\(T\) is a polynomial algebra. Based on this observation, the authors prove that \(T\) shares many nice homological properties and other properties. Many interesting examples are given and some heuristic questions are also posed in the paper. The authors consider these left or right coideal subalgebras individually. It seems interesting to consider them together and they have a kind of order through inclusion just like in the paper of \textit{I. Heckenberger} and \textit{H.-J. Schneider} [Isr. J. Math. 197, 139--187 (2013; Zbl 1301.16033)].
