Consider the degenerate fractional differential equation \[ D^\alpha(Mu)(t) = A u(t) + f(t),\quad t \in \mathbb R,\tag{1} \] where \(f:\mathbb{R} \to X, \alpha \in (0,\infty)\) and the fractional derivative is understood in the Caputo sense with low terminal \(-\infty\). The closed linear operators \(A\) and \(M\) are defined on the Banach space \(X\) with domains \(D(A)\) and \(D(M)\) respectively and \(D(A) \cap D(M)\) is not empty. For the equation (1) is studied the well-posedness (or maximal regularity) on the vector-valued Hoelder \((C^\gamma(\mathbb{R},X), 0 < \gamma <1)\) and Lebesgue \((L^p(\mathbb{R},X), 0 < p <1)\) spaces. In the case when \(f \in C^\gamma(\mathbb{R},X)\) sufficient conditions for \(C^\gamma(\mathbb{R},X)\)-well-posedness of the equation (1) are obtained. That means that for each \(f \in C^\gamma(\mathbb{R},X)\) there exists a unique solution \(u \in C^\gamma(\mathbb{R},D(A)\cap D(M))\) of (1) with \(Mu \in C^{\alpha,\gamma}(\mathbb{R},X)\). The results are proved without additional conditions about the commutativity between \(A\) and \(M\) or existence of a bounded inverse of \(A\) or \(M\). In the other case when \(f \in L^p(\mathbb{R},X)\), under the additional assumptions that \(X\) is an UMD Banach space and the operators \(A\) and \(M\) are commutative, sufficient conditions for \(L^p(\mathbb{R},X)\)-well-posedness (or maximal regularity) of the equation (1) are established. In addition, some illustrative examples are given.
