Using nested sequences of subspaces \(V_n\) of Fréchet spaces \(X\), the authors prove estimates of distances between an element \(x\) of the mentioned Fréchet space and the nested sequences of subspaces (the closure of one subspace being contained in the next subspace). The Fréchet spaces are infinite-dimensional, thus providing a very general context of this work. These bounds are upper and lower estimates to the distance \(\mathrm{dist }(x,V_n)\), and both of them converge to zero, where the zero-sequence \(e_n\) used in these bounds is prescribed (in other words, in particular the speed with which it converges to zero is controlled). The results correspond to earlier results restricted to Banach spaces. The general context of such theorems is the famous BLT lethargy theorem due to Bernstein.
