The paper concerns some aspects of the Dunkl harmonic analysis. The authors study the properties of the generalized translation operator $\tau^y$. One of the problems in the Dunkl analysis is the $L^p$-boundedness of this operator, still open in general. The authors consider the spherical mean value $T^t$ of this operator and prove that such generalized translation operator is positive and $L^p$-bounded. \par The authors define a convolution by means of $T^t$ and prove the Young inequality for it as well as the $L^p$-boundedness of $\tau^y$ on the radial functions for $p>2$. Based on the $L^p$-boundedness of $T^t$ the authors suggest a new proof of boundedness of the Riesz potential. Another application is basic inequalities of approximation theory in the weighted $L^p$ spaces. With the help of the operator $T^t$ one can define moduli of smoothness, which are equivalent to the $K$-functionals, and prove direct and inverse approximation theorems. The authors also prove weighted analogues of the Nikolskii, Bernstein, and Boas inequalities for entire functions of exponential type.
