As a natural continuation of the classification results of Fano bundles, weak Fano bundles are studied. They are vector bundles \(E\) on a complex projective manifold \(X\) such that the corresponding projective bundle \(\mathbb{P}_X(E)\) is weak Fano, that is, its anticanonical bundle is nef and big. It is known that \(E\) weak Fano implies that \(X\) is weak Fano too and a partial classification when \(X\) is a projective space and rank of \(E\) is two has been also provided (see the Introduction of the paper under review and references therein). The paper under review deals with the question of classification of weak Fano bundles of rank two on \(X\) a smooth cubic hypersurface of \(\mathbb{P}^4\). These vector bundles (see Theorem 1.1) either split as a sum of line bundles; or appear as an extension of the ideal of a line on \(X\) by the trivial line bundle; or as an extension of the twisted by one ideal of a smooth elliptic quintic on \(X\) by \(\mathcal{O}(-1)\). In particular, they are Fano if and only if either are trivial or \(\mathcal{O} \oplus \mathcal{O}(-1)\). The method seems to work to deal with \(X\) a quartic threefold, showing that weak Fano of rank two implies decomposable (sum of line bundles).
