Let \((M,g,J)\) be a compact Hermitian manifold with the operator of almost complex structure \(J\). The Chern connection on \(TM\) is the connection \(\nabla\) characterized by the following properties: (1) \(\nabla g=0\), (2) \(\nabla J=0\), (3) \(T(X,JY)=T(JX,Y)\) for \(X,Y\in TM\), where \(T(X,Y)\) is the torsion tensor. Let \(\Omega\) denote the curvature tensor of \(\nabla\). Due to torsion of \(\nabla\), four different contractions of the curvature \(\Omega\) can be defined. In particular, the second Chern-Ricci curvature tensor is defined by \(S_{i\bar j}(g):=\Omega_{m\bar ni\bar j}g^{m\bar n}\). The Hermitian Curvature Flow (HCF shortly) is an evolution equation \(\frac{\partial}{\partial t}g=-S(g)+Q(T)\), where \(Q(T)\) is a type-(1,1) quadratic term in the torsion of \(g\). If \((M,g,J)\) is Kähler, then \(S(g)=Ric(g)\), \(T=0\), and the HCF coincides with the Kähler-Ricci flow. In this paper, the authors study the Hermitian curvature flow of locally homogeneous non-Kähler metrics on compact complex surfaces. In particular, the authors characterize the long-time behavior of the solutions to the flow. The authors also provide the first example of a compact complex non-Kähler manifold admitting a finite time singularity for the Hermitian curvature flow. Finally, they compute the Gromov-Hausdorf limit of immortal solutions after a suitable normalization.
