In the paper under review, the authors introduce a new family of symmetric polynomials \(G_{\nu, \lambda}(z_1, \ldots, z_{n+1}, q)\) parameterized by a pair of partitions of length at most \(n+1\). In the case where \(\lambda = 0\), the symmetric polynomial \(G_{\nu, 0}(z, q)\) coincides with the \emph{specialized Macdonald polynomial} \(P_\nu(z,q,0)\). The authors interpret the symmetric polynomial \(G_{\nu, \lambda}(z, q)\) from the viewpoint of \( \widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{n+1}\)-modules under the condition that \((\nu, \lambda)\) is a \emph{compatible pair}. The authors define a graded finite-dimensional module \(M(\nu, \lambda)\), which can be understood as an interpolation between level one and level two Demazure modules. When \((\nu, \lambda)\) is a compatible pair, they prove that the symmetric polynomial \(G_{\nu, \lambda}(z, q)\) coincides with the graded character of \(M(\nu, \lambda)\). Thus the symmetric polynomials \(G_{\nu, \lambda}(z, q)\) interpolate between the characters of level one and level two Demazure modules. Note that \(P_\nu(z,q,0)\) can be interpreted as the graded character of certain level one Demazure module [\textit{Y. B. Sanderson}, J. Algebr. Comb. 11, No. 3, 269--275 (2000; Zbl 0957.05106)]. The authors then show that \(G_{\nu, \lambda}(z, q)\) is \emph{Schur positive}. Together with a result of \textit{K. Naoi} [Adv. Math. 229, No. 2, 875--934 (2012; Zbl 1305.17009)], the result gives an explicit formula for \(P_\nu(z,q,0)\) associated with a non-simply laced Lie algebra in terms of the characters of level one Demazure modules.
