In a paper published in [J. Differ. Equations 246, No. 8, 3126--3135 (2009; Zbl 1182.34045)], \textit{L. Gavrilov} et al. have studied the limit cycles in a planar polynomial quasi-homogeneous system perturbed by small polynomial perturbation, by means of the first term of the respective displacement function. As an example they proved that for the particular system \[ \dot{x}=y+x^{2n}+ \varepsilon Q(x,y,\varepsilon),\quad \dot{y}=2ncx^{4n-1}-\varepsilon P(x,y,\varepsilon),\quad c<-\frac14, \] where the degrees of \(P\) and \(Q\) do not exceed \(4n-1\), at most \(3n^2+n-1\) limit cycles are produced from periodic orbits of the initial system and moreover, there are perturbations having \(2n^2+n-1\) such cycles. Here, the authors improve this result by establishing that the lower bound can be raised to \(3n^2+n-3\) and when \(c<-1\), the lower bound equals the upper one.
