In a real normed space \(X\) a vector \(x\) is said to be \(a\)-isosceles orthogonal to \(y\) (\(a\neq 0\) is a fixed scalar) iff \(\|x+ay\|=\|x-ay\|\). The authors propose two definitions of an approximate \(a\)-isosceles orthogonality as well as of an approximate Roberts orthogonality. They consider the class of linear mappings satisfying the property that for an arbitrary \(\delta\)-\(a\)-isosceles orthogonal pair of vectors \(x,y\) the images \(Tx,Ty\) are \(\varepsilon\)-\(b\)-isosceles orthogonal (\(\delta,\varepsilon\in[0,1)\) and \(a,b\neq 0\) are fixed). Moreover, the authors introduce and investigate the so-called approximate Roberts orthogonality set of \(x\) with respect to \(y\), i.e., the set of all scalars \(s\) such that \(y\) is \(\varepsilon\)-Roberts orthogonal to \(x-sy\). Some geometrical properties of such sets are given; in particular for norms satisfying an approximate parallelogram law.
