Let \(G\) be a split reductive linear algebraic group over an algebraically closed field \(k\), \(B\) be a Borel subgroup of \(G\), and \(I \subset G(k((t)))\) be the corresponding Iwahori subgroup. Associated to this data is the (extended) affine Hecke algebra \({\mathbf H}\). The Hecke algebra \({\mathbf H}\) is known to be isomorphic to the Grothendieck group of equivariant coherent sheaves on the Steinberg variety of the Langlands dual group \(G^{\vee}\). The main goal of this paper is to construct a categorification of this relationship. More precisely, the author obtains three different natural equivalences of derived categories. For example one equivalence (compatible with the convolution product) is from an equivariant derived category on the extended affine flag variety to a bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on the Steinberg variety for \(G^{\vee}\). This work builds on previous work of the author with \textit{S. Arkhipov} [Isr. J. Math. 170, 135--183 (2009; Zbl 1214.14011)] and also makes key use of the author's joint work with \textit{Z. Yun} [Represent. Theory 17, 1--98 (2013; Zbl 1326.20051)]. The general framework used here (for two of the three equivalences) is demonstrating an equivalence between a subcategory of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on an algebraic stack and the bounded derived category of an abelian category. The author does an excellent job of outlining the strategy of the proof. After the proof of the main results, the author focuses on the case that the field \(k\) has prime characteristic and investigates properties of the functors (giving the equivalences) with respect to the Frobenius morphism. The author also makes a number of conjectures on potential equivalences of categories that would generalize those found in this work.
