The authors obtain necessary optimality conditions for an optimal control problem with the thin-film equation as constraint. State constraints are used to overcome a lack of well-posedness. The analytic results rely on a multi-parameter regularization approach. The authors also discuss computational issues and provide some simulations which show the relevance of parameter choices. The flowchart of Figure 1 of the article gives a good description of the content.
