It is well-known that smooth functions have convergent Fourier series with respect to classical orthonormal systems such as the trigonometric system, the Haar system, and the Walsh system. On the other hand, the smoothness of functions does not guarantee the convergence a.e. of the corresponding Fourier series with respect to general orthonormal systems. This paper deals with the problem of finding conditions for the orthonormal systems with respect to which the Fourier series of functions of finite variation on \((0,1)\) converges a.e. on \([0,1]\).
