Suppose that \(BC(\Omega)\) is the space of bounded continuous functions on an unbounded subset \(\Omega\) of \(\mathbb{R}^n\). In this paper, the authors investigate the construction of compact subsets of \(BC(\Omega)\) and introduce a measure of noncompactness on this space. As an application, they prove the existence of solutions for a large class of functional integral equations of Volterra type on \(BC(\Omega)\) by using some fixed point theorems associated with their new measure of noncompactness. In the last section of the paper, they also show some examples which their results are applicable while the previous ones are not.
