Three numerical examples to the Vavilov-Cherenkov radiation effect in a planarly layered wave-guide, for polarized waves, are presented based on the step-index waveguide. To this aim, the authors introduce the physical problem and its correspondent steady-state boundary value problem, by applying the Fourier transform with respect to the time variable, which admits a solution in the form of a double oscillatory integral. Some properties of the generalized normalized eigenfunctons are stated to the one-dimensional spectral problem \(\mathcal{L}_{\nu,\omega}\varphi(z,\omega)= - \alpha^2\varphi(z, \omega)\) for \(z\in\mathbb{R}\), accomplished by \(\varphi(z, \omega)= \partial_z \varphi (z,\omega)=0\) on the interface, \(z=\pm h\), between the core and the cladding. Here, \(\alpha^2\) is the spectral parameter, \(\omega\) denotes the angular frequency of the field, \(\nu \equiv 1\) if TE waves and \(\nu(z)= \epsilon_{\mathrm{r}1} \left( 1-\chi_{[-h,h]}(z) \right)+ \epsilon_{\mathrm{r}2}(z)\chi_{[-h,h]}(z)\) if TM waves, with \(\epsilon_{\mathrm{r}1}\) and \(\epsilon_{\mathrm{r}2}(z)\) representing the relative permittivity parameters of the cladding and the core, respectively, such that \(\inf\{\epsilon_{\mathrm{r}2}(z) : \) \(z\in [-h,h]\}>\epsilon_{\mathrm{r}1}>0\). The differential operator is \(\mathcal{L}_{\nu,\omega}=\nu(z) \partial_z \left( \nu^{-1}(z) \partial_z\right) + \omega^2 c_0^{-2} (\epsilon_{\mathrm{r}2}(z)-\epsilon_{\mathrm{r}1})\chi_{[-h,h]}(z) I\), with \(c_0\) denoting the phase velocity in vacuum, and \(I\) being the identity operator. Asymptotic expansions to the Green function associated to steady-state boundary value problems under study appear as consequence. Finally, asymptotic expansions to the polarized TE and TM-guided modes and their superposition in the waveguide, generated by a moving point source, are introduced by means of the stationary phase method.
