Let \(F\) be a number field, let \(S\) be a sufficiently large finite set of places of \(F\). Given two smooth functions \(f_1,f_2\) on \(\mathrm{GL}_2(F_S)\) with compact support modulo its center, let \(\Sigma^{\mathrm{cusp}}(g)\) be a certain four-variable kernel function representing the action of \(f_1\otimes f_2^\vee\) on the cuspidal automorphic spectrum of \(\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb A_F)\), weighted by the residues at \(s=1\) of the automorphic \(L\)-functions \(L(s,\pi\times\pi^{\vee S})\) for cuspidal \(\pi\). The author gives a geometric expansion of \(\Sigma^{\mathrm{cusp}}(g)\) as an absolutely convergent sum of a certain integral transform \(I_S(f,\beta)\) of \(f_1,f_2\) over the \(F\)-valued points of a variety \(\mathcal W\). For the proof the author introduces a truncated expression \(\Sigma(X)\) which decomposes into a sum over the two Bruhat cells of \(\mathrm{GL}_2(F)\). Over the open cell, by applying the Poisson summation formula, the author obtains an Eulerian integral which he studies locally and evaluates the limit to be \(\Sigma^{\mathrm{cusp}}(g)\) as the truncation parameter \(X\) approaches infinity. Then the contribution from the closed cell is shown to converge to zero as \(X\rightarrow\infty\).
