The investigation on the neural noise starts with the presentation of the NLIF, noisy leaky integrate-and fire model, which in a normalized form reduces to a stochastic first order differential equation in the membranes potential v(t). The authors associate to NLIF the Fokker-Plank (FP) equation describing the dynamics of the population density \(p(t,v)\) and they presents simulations of the model. Further, the age of a neuron and the survival probability density are defined and there is a discussion on the inter-spike interval and the first passage time problems. The noisy threshold model and the corresponding age-structured (AS) model which describes the evolution in time of the population density function with respect to the age of neuron are introduced and simulation results are shown. The main result in this paper refers to a link between AS and FP problems. The authors prove the existence of an integral transform relating the solutions of the AS model and FP equation, which associates to any density in age \(n(t,a)\) a corresponding solution \(p(t,v)\) to FP equation. An additional result related to the asymptotic behavior of solutions is presented. The paper ends with a section on conclusions and perspectives.
