The goal of the paper is to elaborate, in a specific framework, a discrete differential geometry theory corresponding, by a discretization process, to a certain smooth context. The authors build a good discretization model in which the convex planar polygons with parallel opposite sides (CPOS) may be retrieved as the discrete image of special closed convex planar curves. The digital representation is the result of considering tangent lines at samples with pairwise parallel tangents. In the framework of the CPOS, the authors define the concept of great diagonal and use it to construct the area evolute, the central symmetry and the cusps. They prove that all the properties of these geometric objects associated with a closed planar smooth curve are retrieved to the corresponding geometric objects associated to the CPOS obtained by the above mentioned digitization from the given curve. Similar results are obtained for equidistants, proving that, in this discrete framework, the branches of the equidistant symmetry set have cusps at the central symmetry set or cusps of the area evolute. More, given a CPOS, the authors prove the existence of another CPOS whose central symmetry set is exactly the area evolute of the first one and whose sides are parallel to the great diagonals of the given one. The uniqueness of this CPOS is investigated.
