Function spaces called ``generalized bounded variation'' were first studied by \textit{G. Keller} [Z. Wahrscheinlichkeitstheor. Verw. Geb. 69, 461--478 (1985; Zbl 0574.28014)]. In that paper, G. Keller proved that the transfer operator for a piecewise expanding map acting on these function spaces is quasi-compact if the map has a finite number of discontinuities and the inverse of its derivative is Hölder continuous. In the paper reviewed here, the author extends the results of G. Keller to weighted transfer operators and where the map and weighting have a countable number of discontinuities. The only extra hypothesis needed for this extension is an \(L^p\) bound on the derivative of the map. Related results were obtained by \textit{D. Thomine} [Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 30, No. 3, 917--944 (2011; Zbl 1219.37007)].
