The notion of prime (resp. semiprime) ring is a very important noncommutative generalization of integral domain. A standard approach to infinite dimensional algebras is to consider pseudo-compact algebras or, equivalently, the structure of coalgebras. This is due to its locally finite nature which allows to develop techniques similar to those known for finite dimensional algebras. The aim of the paper is to determine the representation theory of coprime coalgebras over a field. That is to describe completely their category of right or left comodules. The author studies the representation theory of fc-tame coprime coalgebras. It is shown that a large class of fc-tame cosemiprime coalgebras are string. It is noted that prime coalgebras over a field as described by \textit{M. Ferrero} and \textit{V. Rodrigues} [J. Algebra Appl. 5, No. 5, 681-694 (2006; Zbl 1163.16027)] differ from the ones treated in the paper. For this aim, the author first studies the wedge product of arbitrary coalgebras and describes its valued Gabriel quiver. It is shown that each connected component of the valued Gabriel quiver must be strongly connected. The author proves that (i) any monomial semiprime \(k\)-tame fc-tame coalgebra is string, where \(k\) is an algebraically closed field; (ii) a version of Eisenbud-Griffith theorem for coalgebras: any hereditary semiprime strictly quasi-finite coalgebra is serial.
