On the generalized Askey-Wilson polynomials (Q387362)

The paper deals with the study of a family of polynomials which generalizes the Askey-Wilson polynomials. First the authors present some preliminary results about the Askey-Wilson polynomials. Next they consider a modification of the Askey-Wilson polynomials obtained by adding two mass points to the weight function at the endpoints \(\pm 1\) of the interval of orthogonality. They obtain several properties of the generalized Askey-Wilson polynomials such as different representation formulas and a second order linear \(q\)-difference equation with polynomial coefficients which explicitly depend on the degree of the polynomial. They also obtain the three term recurrence relation satisfied by these polynomials and a representation in terms of basic hypergeometric series.
