On generalized simultaneous nearest point in normed spaces (Q387422)

The authors study here the problem of best simultaneous \(\sigma\)-approximation in terms of the Minkowski functional. Some results on the quotient space and on simultaneous \(\sigma\)-approximation of the sum of two subspaces are obtained by generalizing some of the results proved earlier in [\textit{M. Iranmanesh} and \textit{H. Mohebi}, Anal. Theory Appl. 23, No. 1, 35--49 (2007; Zbl 1150.41347)] and [\textit{H. Mohebi} and \textit{Sh. Rezapour}, Anal. Theory Appl. 19, No. 3, 266-272 (2003; Zbl 1059.46011)]. The authors employ the same technique of proof for their results as in the foregoing papers by replacing the norm by the Minkowski functional.
