The main object of study is the \(C^{\ast}\)-algebra \({\mathcal{A}}\) of ``functions vanishing at infinity'' on the quantum plane. To give complete details of the description of the Gelfand-Naimark-Segal (GNS) representation of the quantum plane \({\mathcal{A}}\) and its dual \(\hat{{\mathcal{A}}}\) as a von Neumann algebra, the author obtains the following results. His first result is the derivation of the Haar functional on \({\mathcal{A}}\). With \({\mathcal{A}}\) the \(C^{\ast}\)-algebra \({\mathcal{A}}:=C^{\infty}(\mathcal{A}_q)\) equipped with a left invariant Haar weight, the author carries out the GNS-construction, which essentially represents \({\mathcal{A}}\) naturally on a Hilbert space \({\mathcal{H}}\) induced by its own multiplication. The main ingredient, the multiplicative unitary \(W\), is defined as a unitary operator on the Hilbert space \({\mathcal{H}}{\otimes}{\mathcal{H}}\) that satisfies the pentagon equation \({W_{23}W_{12}=W_{12}W_{13}W_{23}.}\) The second main result is that this multiplicative unitary \(W\) obtained for the quantum plane above is in fact manageable (in accordance with the notion of manageability introduced by \textit{S. L. Woronowicz} [Int. J. Math. 7, No. 1, 127--149 (1996; Zbl 0876.46044)]). The third result is the derivation of the non-degenerate pairing between \({\mathcal{A}}\) and \(\hat{{\mathcal{A}}}\) on the \(C^{\ast}\)-algebraic level, which remarkably involves the quantum dilogarithm function in place of the \(q\)-factorial. Considering the quantum double group construction introduced by Woronowicz [\textit{P. Podleś} and \textit{S. L. Woronowicz}, Commun. Math. Phys. 130, No. 2, 381--431 (1990; Zbl 0703.22018)] and using \textit{S. Baaj} and \textit{S. Vaes}' construction of the multiplicative unitary \({\mathbf{W}}_m\) [J. Inst. Math. Jussieu 4, No.~1, 135--173 (2005; Zbl 1071.46040)], the author gives the GNS description of the quantum double \({\mathcal{D}}({\mathcal{A}})\) which is equivalent to the quantum ``semigroup'' \(GL_q^{+}(2, {\mathbb{R}})\). The fourth result is that the fundamental corepresentation \(T^{\l,t}\) and its matrix coefficients can be expressed by the \(b\)-hypergeometric function. The fifth author's result is that the space of \(L^2\) functions on the quantum double decomposes into the continuous series representation of \(U_{q{\widetilde{q}}}({\mathfrak{gl}}(2,{\mathbb{R}}))\) with the quantum dilogarithm \(|S_b(Q+2i{\alpha})|^2\) as the Plancherel measure. The final result describes some representation theoretic meaning of integral transforms involving the quantum dilogarithm function.
