The authors study one-dimensional viscous isentropic compressible gas flow through a nozzle with discontinuous cross section from the point of view of existence and uniqueness of generalized stationary waves. The nozzle is rotationally symmetric, its area as a function of \(x\) is piece-wise smooth, with discontinuity of the first kind in \(x=0\). By mollifying the area function and imposing an entropy condition to the sequence of regularized solutions, the geometric singular perturbation technique is used to establish the existence and uniqueness of inviscid and viscous stationary waves.
