A version of the Runge approximation theorem is proved. Let \((M,J)\) be an almost complex manifold such that \(J\) is regular in the sense of Fredholm theory and such that for almost every point \(m\in M\) and almost every second-order jet at \(m\) there exists a \(J\)-holomorphic sphere in \(M\) passing through \(m\) with this jet at \(m\). Under these conditions on \((M,J)\) the folowing result is proved. Theorem. Let \(\Sigma\) be a compact Riemann surface, \(U\) an open subset in \(\Sigma\) and \(K\subset U\) a compact. Then every \(J\)-holomorphic map \(f: U\to (M,J)\) can be approximated uniformaly on \(K\) by \(J\)-holomorphic maps from \(\Sigma\) to \((M,J)\).
