The paper is a large study presenting some propositions on generalized Nevanlinna functions in the class \(\mathcal N_\kappa\). Along five sections, it is shown firstly that the number of negative eigenvalues of each Hermitian generalized Loewner matrix generated by a function from \(\mathcal N_\kappa\) is not greater than \(\kappa\). This fact helps in obtaining an equivalent definition of generalized Nevanlinna functions with negative index \(\kappa\), extending it to the multiple point case. Secondly, it is indicated that the number of negative eigenvalues of the Hankel matrix, constructed with the partial coefficients of the asymptotic expansion of a function from \(\mathcal N_\kappa\) at a real point or at infinity, does not exceed \(\kappa\). After an introduction into the problem in the first section, in the second one it is shown that a Hermitian Loewner matrix can be substituted by a certain Hermitian generalized Loewner matrix, leading to an equivalent definition for generalized Nevanlinna functions. In the third section, using a notion of angular derivatives of a meromorphic function at a real point, some propositions on asymptotic expansions of a function from \(\mathcal N_\kappa\) at real points and at infinity are studied. In the fourth section of the paper, an explicit formula is obtained for the negative index of real rational functions by decomposing each real rational function into the sum of a real polynomial and a strictly proper real rational function using the Bézout matrix of a pair of polynomials and the generating functions of a Hankel matrix. The last section of the paper contains some conclusions about the obtained results.
