Recent progress on the Gross-Prasad conjecture (Q490001)

This paper is a survey of recent progress towards the Gross-Prasad conjecture. This conjecture deals with the irreducible representations occurring in restrictions of irreducible representations of non-compact real or \(p\)-adic Lie groups. The paper first introduces in a fair amount of detail the restriction problem and surveys some fundamental results. Following that, the local Langlands conjecture is introduced and then the local and global Gross-Prasad conjectures are stated. The remaining sections discuss recent progress towards the Gross-Prasad conjecture. Some open questions are listed in the last section.
