The authors define an al function for a cyclic trigonal curve of genus three following Weierstrass for the hyperbolic case. See [\textit{V. M. Buchstaber} et al., Rev. Math. Math. Phys. 10, No. 2, 3--120 (1997; Zbl 0911.14019); \textit{F. Klein}, Math. Ann. 27, 431--464 (1885; JFM 18.0418.02)]. They first explain the geometry of a genus three cyclic trigonal curve in the affine plane. Then they present the meromorphic functions needed to express the trigonal al functions and obtain a generalized Frobenius theta formula. They define the al function and study its properties using results from the following papers: [\textit{J. C. Eilbeck} et al., in: SIDE III -- Symmetries and integrability of difference equations. Proceedings of the 3rd conference, Sabaudia, Italy, May 16--22, 1998. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS). 121--138 (2000; Zbl 1003.14008); J. Reine Angew. Math. 619, 37--48 (2008; Zbl 1165.14022); Int. Math. Res. Not. 2008, Article ID rnm140, 38 p. (2008; Zbl 1210.14032)].
