Two elements \(x\), \(y\) of an Archimedean partially ordered vector space \(X\) are called disjoint if an element is an upper bound of \(x+y\) and \(x-y\) if and only if it is an upper bound of \(x-y\) and \(-x+y\). If \(B^d\) is the set of all elements \(y\) disjoint with every element of \(B\), then \(B\) is called a band if \((B^d)^d=B\). The bands are characterized with the help of the space of continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space. Special attention is devoted to \(n\)-dimensional partially ordered vector spaces.
