In this paper the author studies the behavior of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the cubic defocusing nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation \[ \begin{cases} u_{tt}-\Delta u+u+u^3=0,\;u:\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{T}^3\to\mathbb{R}\\ u|_{t=0}=u_0\in H^{\frac12}(\mathbb{T}^3),\;\partial_t u|_{t=0}=u_1\in H^{-\frac12}(\mathbb{T}^3),\end{cases}\tag{1} \] where \(H^s(\mathbb{T}^3)\) denotes the usual Sobolev space. For the problem (1), the symplectic phase space is at the critical regularity. The author proves a local-in-time non-squeezing result for (1). The proof relies on an adaptation of the almost sure global well-posedness result of [\textit{N. Burq} and \textit{N. Tzvetkov}, J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 16, No. 1, 1--30 (2014; Zbl 1295.35387)], via suitable approximation of the flow map and Gromov's theorem. The approximation results are obtained by using probabilistic and deterministic techniques. Moreover, the author proves a conditional global-in-time result. This result states that the global-in-time non-squeezing is consequence of uniform control of the Strichartz norms of solutions. The proof of the global-in-time result follows from an approximation result after a restriction to finite dimensional subspace of initial data. Furthermore, as an application of the above results, the author exhibits non-squeezing for certain subsets of the phase space.
